I've read more!

I mean, it makes more sense, but then again maybe I just needed a break. Not to say though that it makes a whole lot of sense. In the section I have read we are introduced to Oedipa's psychiatrist, Dr. Hilarious. No, I am not making up that name. I believe Thomas Pynchon had some fun naming his characters. Let me give you a few examples: Mike Fallopian, Mucho Maas, Mani Di Presso (Manic Depressive), Genghis Cohen (Ghengis Kahn), the name Oedipa is also a reference to the story of Oedipus which then spurred the "The Oedipus complex, in psychoanalytic theory, is a group of largely unconscious (dynamically repressed) ideas and feelings which centre around the desire to possess the parent of the opposite sex and eliminate the parent of the same sex."(Thats off of Wikipedia). These names don't seem to accurately describe their characters though, but I will try to do some further searching into the meaning of the book

Recently in the book Oedipa seems to become more and more confused about what she  sees and believes. She keeps seeing signs of conspiracy everywhere she goes but is never sure whether to believe them or not. This is alot like the drug era that this book was written in. Drugs are frequently mentioned in the book, mostly LSD and pot. The book seems heavily influenced by them. The way things are described sometimes makes you feel like the main character is on some sort of substance because of the confusing nature of them. At one point Oedipa is on drugs and sees signs and symbols everywhere she goes. The explanations for this are extremely confusing. But it does give a good effect of feeling like you are that character trying to make sense of confusing things and symbols.
